Knits for Summer

Moms–toss out the drool bibs! These hand knit, beautiful, berry-tinted collars are lightweight, airy, and still absorbent! They are created from a cotton/kapok (silk cotton) blend, which makes them so soft and smooth against the skin. The openwork lace makes them comfortable to wear in the middle of summer, but still keeps bare necks dry. Who says knitted items have to be warm, heavy, or bulky??

These summer knits are great investment pieces, since they fit most children sizes 12 months to 5 years. They are also versatile–each collar has two options on how to wear it. Finished with delicate scalloped edges.

The Zinger!

It’s official, we are having a contest!! No purchase necessary, and you’re not even required to follow our blog! All you have to do is participate. So, why would we be giving away an amazing, handmade collectible for a prize??

Well… we just want you to know the truth. That’s all. Throughout the years, many people have been allowed to give their opinions on our business.  And, as soon as we have posted our side of the story with links to credible resources, our information has been removed.  It is because many people (Berta’s friends) have not wanted the truth out there.  So, we are using this contest as a lighthearted way to encourage people to seek the truth.

We haven’t given up on the contest, for those of you that have been waiting.  We’ve been waiting for Bobbie Ripperger to clear up her mess.  She has mislead and lied to many people throughout the years. She knows that we still own Thread Bears®, and she knows that our disclaimer had nothing to do with that separate registration, just with the one we were applying for. Since we have put her on the spot to tell what she knows, Boisterous Bobbie has turned mute…at least, publically.

We know she is still involved, still lying.  It’s communications such as this that show that people follow Bobbie’s misunderstandings, and it shows that they don’t stand up for what’s right.

So, in this contest, we will be putting out a new section every week, for a series of weeks.  Each week, a portion of the contest will be revealed that you will need to respond to. Nothing is made up or changed.  It will be words from the person’s own mouth–or fingers, rather. We are using their own words to show what they’ve done. We will give all of the contest information in the upcoming posts, so check back!

P.S. Berta, have you checked with your lawyer to see if you can infringe on our mark? Still waiting to see that letter…

First Knitted Character.

I’m relatively new to knitting, yes. However, I can gladly say that almost everything I have ever made has been from my own brain. Though it may take days or even weeks to create, perfecting it to the best of my ability–I like being able to say: “This is my design.”

Don’t get me wrong, I have used a few patterns… literally, a few. I could probably count how many on one hand. Maybe it’s because I’m crazy! Maybe it’s because I like to challenge myself to make something better.  And, typically, this example is what has happened on those rare occasions of pattern-using…I change it.  I can’t just make what someone else tells me to make, I guess.

This dapper little monkey was adapted from an Alan Dart pattern. Originally, the pieces were to be knitted flat and sewn in place to the body.  I decided to make him jointed, instead! He is my first knitted animal design, and I cannot wait to create a little character entirely from my own design! I love the way this little guy turned out, and I plan on making a lady-chimp-friend for him, along with a whole knitted tea set from the pattern…with my own changes, I’m sure. From his little top hat, to his cheerful little bow tie, with ten fingers and toes, I’d say this “first” was a success.  I’m ready to create my own Thread Bears® characters! Hope you like this little fella.

Side-bar: Sewing

While I’m putting the finishing touches on a few more knitted goods and waiting for a tear-less, teething model, I’ve decided to go a little off-topic.  So, I sew… a little.  I may eventually get ambitious and decide to add some sewn-on details to my knitted items.  Who knows, maybe I’ll just use my skills to sew a lining in a cabled purse or something. Anyways, after dealing with two broken sewing machines this last week, I’ve finished six throw pillows, a roman shade, and have made almost all of the linens in my daughter’s nursery (including the curtains).  After making all of the pillows, I think that zippers can just go kick rocks.  All in all, everything turned out, but for now I think I’ll stick to my knitting! I was so excited about making this sweet little nursery set, I’d though I’d share.

Floral Cluster Cap.

I knitted this fresh, coral-hued hat for my daughter, and it is actually my first finished hat! I crocheted a bunch of these four-petaled flowers in the same color for a little added detail without it being too over-the-top. I am debating about making a pattern for this little hat. I will keep you posted if I do!
